With 20 years experience teaching children and adults, Mr. Landis is dedicated to guiding students through the classic literature at all stages of development.

Music is the most powerful force in the world, capable of marshaling troops into the heat of battle, or serenading an infant into the deepest slumber. Certainly, the ability to delegate the appropriate music for such a stark contrast comes easily to most! However, as the poles begin to shift toward each other, the differences in force and application take on greater and greater subtlety. It is less obvious whether or not one may interchange the music for a wedding with, say, that of a coronation. But the musician has a tougher challenge still. He must be able to treat of the nuances within a single work! It is precisely with this task, of deciphering each work's intellectual and emotional content into a broadly intelligible message, that every musician is charged. To such an end, the single most important advantage that any student can have is a good teacher, i.e. one who is intimately acquainted with the works of the masters, and desirous to inculcate not only "correct technique," but more importantly, good taste.

Piano Lessons For All Levels

Piano Lessons for Beginners Near Me
Beginner

The beginning practice of learning to play the piano includes familiarizing yourself with the keyboard, learning to read sheet music, understanding basic music theory (like scales and rhythm), and practicing simple songs. It also involves developing proper hand positioning, finger technique, and coordination between both hands, along with building a sense of timing using a metronome. Regular practice of basic exercises and simple melodies helps develop muscle memory and lays the foundation for more advanced playing.

Intermediate Piano Lessons Near Me
Intermediate

Intermediate practice of learning piano includes mastering more complex pieces with both hands, improving sight-reading skills, and understanding more advanced music theory (like chord progressions, key signatures, and modes). It also focuses on developing speed, hand coordination, and dynamics (playing softly or loudly). Intermediate players work on refining technique, such as using correct fingering, voicing chords, and adding expression to pieces, while also tackling more challenging rhythms and musical styles.

Advanced Piano Lessons Near Me
Advanced

Advanced piano practice includes mastering complex and virtuosic pieces, refining technical skills like rapid finger movements, intricate rhythms, and precise control of dynamics. It involves deep musical interpretation, understanding advanced music theory, and expressing emotion through phrasing and articulation. Advanced players focus on performance skills, consistency, and accuracy. Often tackling challenging repertoire from classical, jazz, or contemporary genres. It also includes improvisation and the ability to play in different styles with flexibility and creativity.
